Anton Corbijn
Photographer and director Anton Corbijn were born in 1959 in the small town of Strijen in Holland. His father was a priest and as a child, Anton himself wanted to become a missionary. He has also told how limited he felt in a society where everyone knew who he was. Although his plans always included moving from Strijen, it was still where he began his career as a photographer. Later, he published the autobiographical photo book A. Somebody as a tribute to his birthplace.
He has made a name for himself as a photographer of great musicians and has directed a large number of music videos. He is known for having a stripped-down style, often with very emotional images. Corbijn began his photographic career in the ’70s, moved to London and began collaborating with bands such as Joy Division, Depeche Mode, U2 etc. After many years in London, he is now back in Holland.
