Hans Hammarskiöld
Hans Hammarskiöld, (1925-2012), is one of Swedens leading figures in photography during the 20th century. He started photographing with his father’s Leica as a high school student in the 1940s.
The breakthrough came in the 1950s when he was employed by Vogue in London. His career spanned almost seventy years. Hammarskiöld worked in practically all genres of photography with everything from portraits, fashion, architecture, nature and advertising. He has photographed artists, writers, royalty, photographers and actors and has published several books. His pictures are often characterized by great openness, humour and warmth.
Hammarskiöld was the last member of the famous group Tio Fotografer, which was formed in 1958 and was a leading figure in Swedish photography for several decades and also created the agency Tiofoto.
