Rankin

John Rankin Waddell (b. 1966) in Scotland, also known by his working name Rankin, is a British portrait and fashion photographer and director.
He is best known as one of the founders of the magazine “Dazed and Confused” and for his pictures of internationally known top models such as Kate Moss, Alison Lomax and Heidi Klum. He has also shot celebrities such as Madonna and David Bowie. His work has appeared in magazines such as GQ, Vogue and Marie Claire. In 2011, Rankin started the magazine “Hunger” which was about fashion, culture and lifestyle and launched Rankin Film where he both produced and directed his films.
Of all the celebrities he has photographed during his career, there is one that stands out in a very special way: namely the English Queen Elisabeth II. He was commissioned to portray her in connection with her 50th anniversary as regent in 2002. Rankin has said that he initially felt quite uncomfortable in the face of all the bowing and all-forced court etiquette, but that it quickly passed when they met.
