Bob Gruen

Bob Gruen is one of the most well-known and respected photographers in world of rock and roll. Gruen has captured the music scene for over forty years with photographs that have gained worldwide recognition. Shortly after John Lennon moved to New York in 1971, Bob became John and Yoko’s personal photographer and friend.

For Gruen’s many charitable contributions, Bob received the first-ever John Lennon Real Love Award in December 2014 at the 32nd annual John Lennon Tribute Concert. Bob Gruen has taken some of the most famous early seventies picture of John Lennon in New York, published in many books over the years, but he is equally famous for his punk and new wave images.

“When I grew up, most of my friends were musicians and artists. To photograph was my hobby. I like natural environments and I do not usually instruct them how to act. I like interesting people and of course, I love music. I used to drive around the ’70s with a bunch of journalists. I really enjoyed going out day and night and looking up pictures, finding places and people. I had a lot of fun during these years ” – Bob Gruen
