Christer Forss
Christer Forss was on a language trip in Nice in 1965, where the Beatles would play at the Palais des exposition during their European tour.
When he and a friend on the spot discovered that the Beatles were performing, they immediately began to think about how to get into the concert.
Christers friend wrote for a school newspaper and himself had a brand new SLR camera with a telephoto lens. They were about to foul their way into the concert… They went to the head of the concert and introduced themselves as journalists from Sweden who wrote for a youth magazine.
The friend showed his ID and Christer swung a little extra with the camera on his stomach. The man looked at them sceptically and after a few breathless seconds he took the pen and wrote out two “laissez-passer”.
The pictures are taken in existing light, they capture intimacy and naturalness. And above all, world-class music history.
